Avril Bleh

Been awhile, but I was feeling nostalgic mostly for Brian but for the interweb as well, oh and my quarter just ended. I’ve had a couple reviews planned for awhile, here’s one of em.

Does that look good to you? Because it was delicious. This is the only picture you’ll get of my experience, taken hastily with my camera phone, because honestly I was that caught off guard. I don’t even remember what the name of the sandwich was, something about smokehouse maybe? I only say that because that’s generally the type of name I look for when ordering a sandwich.

So where was I? Avril Bleh, which is a weird name, but why mess with a name that’s been around since 1894. Haven’t heard of it? Well, the catch is the restaurant side of the building is new. Avril Bleh has been and still is a meat market on Court Street in downtown Cincinnati. They restaurant is still getting their feet under them but told me they’ve been doing well and are happy with their decision to open the sandwich counter, I couldn’t agree more. The only thing missing from my sandwich was a side like chips or coleslaw or something, which made the sandwich by itself a little pricey, maybe $5 or $6 but like I said, it was a goooood sandwich.

I sat at the counter in the front of the store and watched passersby out the window. I love seeing people walking around a city and Court Street is really one of the lesser known gems of the city in that regard. There is a landscaped median down the middle of the street with plenty of parking for those that wish to drive there.

Also Avril Bleh is next to a new Creperie which is the first one I’ve seen in the city and is more authentic than others I’ve been to (although they have several Americanzed crepes as well). Both establishments are filled with really friendly people who are excited about the city. I encourage you to stop by and show some support for the little guys who make our city something special.
