Putting It Off

I have a syndrome called putting it off or procrastinating. But in the last month, I feel that I have made some significant strides in getting over the bus accident and getting my finances back on track. For instance, I’m doing five shifts at the art school this week and three next week. I also got a call from John Walthier and got together with him on September 21 for a photo shoot in a parking garage located next to Working With Artists. His site is a work in progress but you can find it and a few of my photos posted on www.jtwphoto.com. When you get time, take a look. I think his work is excellent and it’s possible that we will get together again for another shoot.

A month ago on the seat next to me on the bus, I found a news paper with a sidebar about DVD’s. The anonymous author mentioned a Liongate DVD called Homeboy and starring Mickey Rourke which has just been released on the shirttails of The Wrestler. The last sentence of the short filler read, “Unfortunately, he slept his way through it.” I stopped and read the sentence again. If an actor can sleep his way through a movie, why can’t a writer sleep his way through writing a book. I’m giving a lot of thought to the premise.

I’ve also been trying to catch up on the cable series that seem to come out every fall.  I’ve watched all of the Dollhouse (a sci-fi series that appears to take place in your neighborhood grocery store minus the food) and over half way through Fringe, which feature more quirky stories than Dollhouse and more interesting characters. In the meantime, from The Great Courses I’ve bought Building Great Sentences: Exploring the Writer’s Craft. I’ve gone through the 24 sessions once and was backtracking on the course when I had my accident and haven’t been able to concentrate on it since. Now I’m feeling better I’ll be going back through and see if I can improve my writing skills.

So with what’s predicted to be a rather cold and nasty winter coming on in Denver this fall, I’ve got a lot of things to do. Hopefully, this will bring those who read my 20 some previous columns an idea of where I am at the moment. All I can say for the future is that I’m planning on doing more of the same. So hopefully I’ll be in the mood for more writing and less procrastination in the coming days, weeks, months, and years. Nice to be back with all of you again.
